This month, we are celebrating Christmas in July with Samaritan’s Purse. Hopefully, you’ve seen the Operation Christmas Child display in the lobby or a video during service about this program; but you should know that it’s about more than just a shoebox. Each box represents a chance to change the life of a child. It’s an opportunity for us to share the good news of Jesus in a way that is, quite frankly, easy.
‘Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. ‘ 1 Corinthians 12:27
Show The Love Of Christ
Every box reaches a child that may never see another gift that year, who may never have received any gift, ever. What a chance to show the love of Christ! What an opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ; to demonstrate, in a tangible way, His love. I, personally, have not found evangelism to be one of my strongest gifts, maybe you feel the same? But Operation Christmas Child makes it simple! Each and every box handed out to a child also has the story of Christ (in that child’s native language) handed out with it. Those kids get to read the story together and have a short lesson in what it all means. The gift those children receive isn’t just the contents of the box, but the story that will lead them to salvation!
The reason for the Christmas season is the gift of Jesus. God was so gracious in giving us that life-changing gift. Now, we are given the possibility of sharing that gift with children all around the world. If we don’t tell others about Christ, who will? If we aren’t the hands and feet of Christ, who is?
‘If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. ‘
1 Corinthians 12:26
An Example of Generosity
Today, I stood in the lobby handing out empty shoeboxes to my church family. At times, you stood more than 10 deep, waiting to get your boxes. We gave out almost 250 this weekend alone! The people of the Village Christian Church are eager to be generous. It is humbling to witness, and a joy to be a part of. This generosity will affect children and their families the world over. Traveling by plane, boat, camel, yak, donkey, and goodness knows how many other methods, you truly have become the hands and feet of Christ.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20 NIV
