Just Say Yes

Lauren Sandeno said yes to the trip to Swaziland, Africa to serve at Project Canaan, a place of hope for orphans

I went to the meeting about the Africa trip and thought to myself, I can’t be spending money to fly across the world right now. I can’t say yes to the trip. Within 24 hours of me saying no to Africa, I got news that someone was offering to pay my way. I had only met this person a couple times, but they had been praying to send someone that didn’t have the means. I said yes! And thank you!

A year later I was on the plane to Swaziland. When we arrived everyone had their job at Project Canaan. Painting multiple murals around campus, wiring speakers  for the Christmas pageant, or working with Khutsala ornaments. I had prayed for clarity about what gift I had to offer. As soon as I walked onto the children’s campus my heart swelled.

These sweet babies climbed into my lap and right up into my heart. I knew I could serve by just loving them! There are 39 toddlers in one house. I visited them everyday and sat on the floor to play, had snacks, and wiped 39 messy faces. I sang, rocked, and gave lots of kisses. There are countless stories of life saving events that brought these babies to Project Canaan. Saved into a loving family. Not unlike Christ adopting us as daughters and sons.

For He chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love, he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will- to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the One He loves. Ephesians 1:4-6.

In Janine Maxwell’s book, It’s Not Okay With Me, she talks about being called to help. Even if you can only help ONE child -you should.  You should find the courage to JUST DO IT, take the trip, be brave, and help. Even if it’s just one baby.

Someone paid for my way to Africa. Janine and Ian paid the way for 174 children and the future of Swaziland, and Christ paid our way on the cross. I am so thankful.
