Easily one of my favorite things in life is watching people engage in serving. It’s so much fun to see people serving with JOY! That’s been the focus over the last few weeks as we’ve encouraged everyone to Get Off Their Donkey to serve. This is based on the story of the Good Samaritan who got off of his donkey to help.
It’s Been A Busy Week
All this week people are bringing in donation items for the Cinco de Mayo fundraiser. Every single one with a smile and excitement to serve.
This week an entire trailer is full of clothes. Clothes that have been donated by people from our church and from our community. People are excited to donate to help kids that need back to school clothes. A guy who donated the trailer is making arrangements to get the trailer to a storage unit.
Our volunteers are prepping to get the clothes sorted and collect even more to give away at the Back to School Blowout. This huge event will be coming early August.
Over 30 volunteers showed up for the food truck Monday. This was a mobile food pantry in partnership with Northern Illinois Food Bank that provides 10,000 lbs of food to struggling families in our community.
I’ve made two trips to the bank this week, each trip lasting about 30 minutes to turn in all the change collected for the Water Bottle Challenge…which, by the way, has resulted in $3500 so far! Our church put out the challenge to fill a water bottle with change and people are stepping up to the challenge. All of the change will be pooled and given to Heart for Africa to provide clean water.
As I type this, tables are being picked up and chairs are being moved for the big Cinco de Mayo Gala this Saturday. All of this has happened in the last 36 hours and I don’t have the space to type out the hundreds of other ways people are serving each day.
My verse today in my Bible reading was,
But wisdom is shown to be right by the lives of those who follow it. – Luke 7:35
Thank you to everyone for living out your faith! Thank you for serving with JOY! Continue to do so with all that you are and God will use your service. He will use you to make an eternal difference in the lives of others.
