The Cure For Pain

Posted: February 18, 2016 by

I deal with life in music. Whether it’s in good times or bad, I always turn to music. I am incredibly grateful for artists who are able to take thoughts and feelings and put them into a beautiful composition. I think to myself, that is perfect, that’s exactly where I’m at, and now there’s a melody to those thoughts and feelings. Sometimes it makes me feel more pain, and sadness, sometimes it makes me happier, but really it just makes me feel ALIVE.

When something hits you really hard, it can feel like you’re in a dream. That feeling when you’re driving and there’s noise all around you, but you can’t hear it, you can’t feel it, you don’t even remember driving the last mile or the last 20. But then the right song comes on, or the right song comes into your head, and you feel something… You feel human again. God created us with these emotions, God created us to be like him, to feel things. He created us to be spiritual beings who are moved by things such as a perfect song, or a perfect poem. I believe that these are all a gift from God. He has gifted people with the ability to write and sing wonderful things and share them with the world.

Yesterday was a difficult day, and it could lead to many, many more difficult days in the future. In midst of that difficult day, I came back to a song that we’ve actually done at church before. It’s called “The Cure for Pain” by: Jon Foreman. I’m going to paste the lyrics here, as well as a link if you would like to listen to the song… But it is my hope and my prayer that it is the one thing you need today to make you feel ALIVE, to understand that you have a soul, you have life, and God is breathing into you, he is with you, wherever you are today.

“The Cure For Pain” – Jon Foreman

I’m not sure why it always goes downhill
Why broken cisterns never could stay filled
I’ve spent ten years singing gravity away
But the water keeps on falling from the sky

And here tonight while the stars are blacking out
With every hope and dream I’ve ever had in doubt
I’ve spent ten years trying to sing these doubts away
But the water keeps on falling from my eyes

And heaven knows… heaven knows
I tried to find a cure for the pain
Oh my Lord, to suffer like you do…
It would be a lie to run away

So blood is fire pulsing through our veins
We’re either riders, or fools behind the reins
I’ve spent ten years trying to sing it all away
But the water keeps on falling from my tries

And heaven knows… heaven knows
I tried to find a cure for the pain
Oh my Lord, to suffer like you do…
It would be a lie to run away
A lie to run
It would be a lie
It would be a lie to run away

It keeps on falling
It keeps on falling
It keeps on falling
It keeps on falling
The water keeps on falling from my eyes

And heaven knows… heaven knows
I tried to find a cure for the pain
Oh my Lord, to suffer like you do…
It would be a lie to run away
It would be a lie to run away
It would be a lie to run away
