Did You Hear? God Is at Work Through Generosity

Did you hear? Last weekend, in the spirit of generosity, something incredible happened at The Village—we gave away $15,000 during our services.

But this wasn’t about a number or a moment. Our heart was simple and intentional: to meet needs beyond the walls of the church by placing God’s resources into your hands, trusting that He would lead you to respond when you saw a need.

And already, the stories are coming in.

Each one is different. Each one is holy. Today, we’re grateful to share one story that beautifully captures the heart of why we did this.

A $20 Gift—and a Bigger Lesson

“When I received my $20, I loved the idea, but I immediately felt pressure to give it ‘right.’ I wasn’t sure what I would do with it.”

The very next day, while running errands at a strip mall, this individual noticed a man standing at an intersection holding a sign that read: “Anything helps. God bless.”

Cars passed by quickly. Lanes were changed. Windows stayed up. Eyes stayed forward.

“I felt a pull that he needed to feel seen.”

After finishing their errands, they drove back, rolled down the window, and said:

“I know this sounds corny, but this money is from God. My church wants to spread some good, and I want you to have this $20.”

It was a brief exchange, but a powerful one.

“I saw so many emotions cross his face—surprise, gratitude, even what looked like a hint of feeling unworthy. He quietly said thank you as the light turned green.”

When God Changes the Giver

As they drove away, the moment didn’t end—it deepened.

“My mind spiraled: What if he spends it poorly? Did he deserve it? Was he grateful enough?”

And in that wrestling, God gently spoke.

“Who was I to decide someone’s worthiness?”

That’s when the realization came:

“Giving isn’t about control or outcomes. A true gift doesn’t come with strings attached. We give not to get something back, but because it’s right, because we can help, because it reflects the heart of Jesus.”

More Than Money

That $20 may have helped someone for a moment—but it transformed the giver in a lasting way.

This is why we gave.
This is why generosity matters.
This is why we trust God with what He’s already placed in our hands.

When we release control, when we choose compassion, and when we step out in obedience—even in small ways—God does far more than we could imagine.

And the story isn’t over.

If God used your gift to bless someone, we would love to hear how He worked through you. Together, we are seeing what happens when faith meets action—and it’s beautiful.
