What Can God Do With $20? Here is Edson’s story and what he did with $20 as part of our $15,000 giveaway.
Recently, our church gave several families $20 in seed money with a simple challenge: Find a need in the community and meet it. Some needs could be covered with $20, while others might take creativity or people working together.
Around that same time, I had been giving a woman rides through Uber to get to and from work. During one ride, she shared that their water heater had been out for almost three weeks. They were trying to save up for a new one, but they just didn’t have the money yet.
My first thought was simple: “I have $20. I can help.”
But the more I thought and prayed about it, the more I felt like God was nudging me to do a little more. So I made a small plan.
In my spare time, I do Uber rides and deliveries. For the next 48 hours, every dollar of profit from those trips would go toward helping them replace their water heater. I didn’t tell them about it—I just started driving. I began with a full tank of gas.
When I needed gas during those 48 hours, I used the $20 seed money our church had given. At the end of the two days, I used part of the profits to refill the tank so I finished right where I started.
After 48 hours of rides and deliveries, the total profit was $210. The family had already managed to save $250. The total bill for the new water heater and installation? $458. Just a few dollars away from exactly what was needed.
I’m a firm believer that with God there are no coincidences. When we listen and are willing to act, He has a way of putting the pieces together in ways we never could.
Because of a simple act of generosity from our church, and a willingness to respond to a need, a family now has hot water again. Sometimes God starts something big… with just $20 and a willing heart
