Do you ever wonder what is the “Big Deal” with Lifegroups and why they matter so much in most churches? Let’s answer after we ask a couple more questions.
Do you ever feel like you’re walking through life alone? Do you ever wish you had someone who understands? Maybe you’re new to faith and trying to figure it all out. Or maybe you’re just going through a rough time and wondering if anyone sees you.
If that’s you—first, know this: you’re not alone; you’re not the only one feeling that way. We were never meant to follow Jesus in isolation.
God Created Us for Connection
From the very beginning, God made it clear: “It is not good for the man to be alone” (Genesis 2:18, NLT). He created us for relationship—with Him and with each other.
One of the best places to experience that connection is in a Lifegroup. It’s not just about Bible study (although that’s important)—it’s about growing in real-life application of our faith with other people who are walking through life too.
Real Life Happens in Circles, Not Rows
Sundays at church are great, but real change often happens in smaller circles—where you can ask real questions, share experiences, and be real with people you trust.
Lifegroup gives you, and others, a chance to be known and strengthened together.
“As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.” Proverbs 27:17 NLT
When my wife and I started attending The Village 11 years ago, we didn’t feel it was home until we got connected in Lifegroup. Those people have been our best friends over the years and have walked through the difficult times of life with us, encouraged us, strengthened our faith, and given us the opportunity to do the same for them. It’s a mutual and exponential growth!
The Bible says in Hebrews 10:24–25 (NLT):
“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another…”
That’s the heartbeat of community: encouragement. And let’s be honest—we all need it.
You Don’t Have to Have It All Together
One of the biggest lies we believe is, “I’ll join a group when I’m more spiritual” or “when I figure my life out.” But that’s like saying, “I’ll go to the gym when I’m in shape.” The truth is, you grow by showing up not by being perfect.
You won’t have all the answers, and no one expects you to. Lifegroup empowers us to learn together as we walk through life together.
No matter where you’re at, God’s not done with your story!
Jesus Shows Up in Community
Jesus said in Matthew 18:20 (NIV):
“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
When we gather around the Word together, Jesus meets us right there. Usually in ways we never expected.
One Small Step Can Change Everything
If you’re feeling isolated or unsure where you belong, consider this your invitation: Find a group. Reach out. You weren’t meant to walk this journey alone. Take the risk. Show up. You might just find the community your heart’s been searching for—and the deeper relationship with God that comes with it.
